Whirlpool Jet Boat Tour

By on December 10, 2013

The Whirlpool Jet Boat Tour is one of Niagara’s most exciting and sought after attractions. The experience of racing through five metre tall rapids in the Niagara Gorge simply has to be on the to-do list for any Niagara Falls visitor.

The trip begins as you set foot on one of eight 1500 horsepower jet boats. The jet boats feature caterpillar jet engines, the only engines powerful enough to propel you up the ferocious rapids. You will be given a lifejacket, rubber socks, and a sweater (if required). You will get wet! It is absolutely impossible not to get wet on these open top boats so bring a change of clothes. The boat will then leave the dock and begin travelling up the lower Niagara River at a speed of over 60 miles an hour! The scenery alone is enough to write home about, but the real experience is further up stream. You will pass the Sir Adam Beck power generation station on your way to the rapids. Once at the rapids, the jet boat will tackle the larger, deeper swells. The operators will purposely swing the boat around a full 180 degrees at gripping speeds. The boat will make its way to the Niagara River Whirlpool, again, performing 180 degree swings upon arriving. After a second to none viewing of the whirlpool your return trip begins back through the rapids.

Words don’t do this attraction justice; it really must be experienced to be believed.
